Leisure and Active Travel

Discover the vision for leisure and active travel below, including plans to expand local facilities, create greener routes, and connect communities with safe, accessible pathways.

Our Vision for Leisure and Active Travel

We want all members of our communities to have access to good quality, affordable sport and leisure facilities. By increasing the range of opportunities and bringing them closer to where people live, we will be widening the range of facilities from play areas, to netball courts and expanding the capacity of local leisure centres to allow more people to use the facilities.

By creating attractive and green paths we can have the dual benefit of making accessible routes that encourage healthy lifestyles and attract more visitors who can add revenue to our towns and wider services.

Connecting our towns and villages with destinations such as the Halo, we can create safe and interesting family friendly routes.

Additional projects feature in later year funding:

  • Community Development Officer
  • Alder Grange 3G Pitch Improvements
  • Marl Pits 3G Pitch Improvements
  • Whitaker Wheeled Sports Area
  • Marl Pits Leisure Extension

We have secured £20m for the next 10 years for Waterfoot, Crawshawbooth and Rawtenstall.

The government strongly endorsed our plan, which means we can start to deliver the things our community want.
