Local clubs and organisations in Rawtenstall, Waterfoot and Crawshawbooth are being invited to apply for grants through the new Active Travel and Leisure Grant, launched to help communities get involved in the excitement of the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

The fund is part of the Our Towns’ Plan, funded through Pride in Place, and supports community-led sports and activity that helps residents get active, try something new, and feel connected during the Games.

Rossendale Borough Council is coordinating the scheme, which aims to create inclusive, welcoming opportunities for people of all ages and abilities. Eligible sessions and events must take place during the Commonwealth Games period, running 23rd July – 2nd August 2026.

Andy Schofield, Pride in Place Board Member said: “The Commonwealth Games is a brilliant opportunity to inspire people across Rossendale to get moving and feel part of something bigger. We’re proud to be able to fund this through Pride in Place, supporting local groups to deliver activities that are fun, inclusive and rooted in our communities. It’s a chance to make sure the Games leave a positive legacy here in the Valley.”

David Reid, Chairman at Rossendale Valley Juniors FC, added: “I’d love to see as many clubs and organisations in Rossendale as possible get involved. The Games might be taking place up in Scotland, but this fund gives us our own way of joining in and inspiring the next generation. It’s a great opportunity for clubs to do something special for their community.”

The fund will support projects that:

• Encourage people of all ages and abilities to take part.
• Remove barriers to participation.
• Bring communities together through sport and activity.
• Create fun, welcoming opportunities to get moving.
